Warner Music settled their payola case handing over 5 million dollars. Warner is the second major company to settle after violating federal and state law which does not allow record companies to provide incentives to radio stations in exchange for artist airplay time.
Federal regulators will continue to investigate other companies in an effort to keep a higher quality of radio and perhaps allow for a broader range of artists to be heard. Amen.

Music Notes for Today

U2's frontman, Bono, says that his music will last 100 years. The music guru says that his songs occupy an emotional terrain.

Apple's iTunes is outselling traditional music stores. iTunes has made the U.S. Top 10 sales list for the last three months.

Graham Coxon

One of my all time favorite groups is the band Blur. Some of the members of the band are involved in different music projects, most notably lead singer Damon Albarn and his side project The Gorillaz. Due to Damon's huge popularity many forget about Graham Coxon and his solo effort. Coxon has released several records and has recently announced that he has just finished another album which will be "sentimental, despondent, whiny, stingy, horribleā€. I guess Graham doesn't think to highly of himself but at least we do.

Mars Volta

I'm not sure my life will be complete until I see Mars Volta in concert. Hailing from Texas, this group breaks barriers by providing a sound unlike any other. You may remember some of the band members from their previous group, At the Drive-In, who split in early 2001.
Recently the group has released a live album, titled Scabdates. Once again the band has released another album of perfection. If you have an extra $20, this album is a must.
